1. The Avett Brothers climbed my Last.fm chart quickly…and they’re definitely going to continue rising since I just got The Avett Bros. EP and Country Was. Not to mention that Four Thieves Gone has been on repeat in my car CD player for the last two weeks.

The Greenhornes - “The End Of The Night”

So put your feet on the floor
    And let it all go
    It’ll work out fine
    It’ll be alright

So I lied when I said I was done for the day. I had time to nap, eat, clear my frustrated head, and put a little effort into a sketch that I can be not embarrassed by.

  3. kippolito asked: 9. (The strangest question on the list if you ask me... but you didn't ask me, so I just told you)

I guess Patrick Keeler who is the drummer for The Greenhornes and The Raconteurs.  Not like I’d want to actually be him, but his situation is awesome because he’s a sucessful musician, a crazy-talented drummer, and he also does a lot of graphic design work for his bands and other musicians.

  4. baconisbetterthanlove asked: your favorite bands, white stripes, dr. dog, white denim? the raconteurs? aaaanddd the greenhornes?

Pretty spot on..the first three are definitely on top.  I guess those are like my core three bands.  Any spots after that can be any number of bands.  Titus Andronicus is definitely high on my list too

  5. This too!!  Man, I want to go to Nashville.  I guess this one’s 21+ anyways, so not like I could go in any case, but it’s still a sick lineup and free.

Day 22 – a song that you listen to when you’re sad

    The Greenhornes - “My Sparrow

It’s kind of a sad song, but I still think it would manage to lift me up a little if I was feeling down.

  7. If one could liquify music, I could mix carefully measured amounts of some of my favorite rock ‘n’ roll: some British Invasion, 60’s garage, original psychedelic, add a nice amount of melodic but perfectly restrained vocals, just the right electric guitar sound - thickly electrified and beautiful, masterful drums, a dash of Farfisa, a bit of warm tube-generated effects…And then I stir and then gently pour the mixture onto a turntable, and the liquified music transforms itself and flows from the speakers and, Godddamn! It’s The Greenhornes! Perfect.

    The Greenhornes drumhead

I think Patrick Keeler, either him or Miles Johnson, designed that cougar/leopard/or whatever.  In any case, Patrick Keeler does a bunch of graphic design stuff for Greenhornes albums, t-shirts, Raconteurs albums, websites, etc.

Musician and designer: that’s an absolute dream job.

  9. I also got this dope poster, a different version of the one I posted a few months back.  As I’ve mentioned before, I love how red and blue go together in print, so it’s cool that they were selling these.

  10. Now here’s a little uneventful story that I’m very happy about:

The Greenhornes came in while Hacienda, was getting to the end of their set, and I went over to Patrick Keeler to ask for a picture, but he said “not right now, we just got here,” cause they had to set up.  Bummer, but obviously understandable.  But it was just awesome that afterwards, my friends and I waited for a short while, I shook touring member Mark Watrous’ hand, and then Patrick came out and we talked to him, I told him I’m a huge fan and the show was amazing, and we got to shake his hand.  He said “thanks for understanding earlier” and was glad to take a few pictures with us.

I sound like such a starstruck little kid, but that’s because I am when it comes to great musicians.  He is seriously one of the most talented drummers out there, and it’s so awesome to find out first hand that someone I admire is actually as nice of a guy as I had hoped.
